Free Halloween Fun in South OC This Week: October 19–25, 2026
Published Oct 17, 2026
The costumes don’t have to wait until Halloween—and the outings don’t have to come with an admission fee. This week’s picks include pumpkin painting, a monster dance party, downtown trick-or-treating and an evening adventure through a historic park.
Every event below is currently listed as free on South OC Kids. Here’s what’s happening and how to choose something that fits your family.
Start small with a weekday outing
Teen Pumpkin Painting — Ladera Ranch
Monday, October 19 · 3:30–5 p.m. · Ladera Ranch Library
For older kids who would rather make something than collect candy, the library’s mini pumpkin painting party offers an after-school Halloween project. Paints and crafting supplies are provided. Bring your own pumpkin or choose one of the library’s while supplies last.
Spooktacular Storytime & Craft: Vampires — San Juan Capistrano
Tuesday, October 20 · 10:30–11:30 a.m. · San Juan Capistrano Library
A vampire-themed storytime followed by a coffee filter bat craft at 11 a.m. gives younger children a short Halloween outing before lunch. Suggested for ages 2–6. Costumes are welcome, and no registration is required.
Monster Bash Dance Party — Rancho Santa Margarita
Thursday, October 22 · 10:30–11:30 a.m. · Rancho Santa Margarita Library
Give that costume a practice run at a Halloween dance party with a costume parade and treats. A good pick for children who would rather wiggle and dance than sit through a craft.
Pick your weekend adventure
Mission Viejo YMCA Trunk or Treat — Mission Viejo
Friday, October 23 · 5–6:30 p.m. · Mission Viejo Family YMCA
Start the weekend with decorated cars and candy collecting. Advance participant registration is available through the YMCA, so check the organizer’s page before heading over.
Halloween Spooktacular & Trunk or Treat — Dana Point
Saturday, October 24 · 1:30–5 p.m. · Dana Point Community Center
Choose this one for an afternoon with plenty of variety: games, crafts, entertainment, a spooky maze and trunk-or-treat displays from Dana Point Police Services.
Treat Street — San Clemente
Saturday, October 24 · 3–5 p.m. · Downtown San Clemente
Take your trick-or-treat bags downtown for a stroll along Avenida Del Mar and El Camino Real. Look for purple balloons identifying participating businesses.
Fall-O-Ween — Lake Forest
Friday–Sunday, October 23–25 · 4:30–8:30 p.m. each evening · Heritage Hill Historical Park
Explore decorated historic grounds, find fall photo spots, navigate a spooky straw maze and follow a scavenger hunt for ghoulish goodies. With three evenings to choose from, this is a flexible option if Saturday is already packed.
Make it an easy week
Pick one weekday activity and one weekend outing, and you’ve already given that costume a few extra adventures. Saturday’s events overlap, so choose the location and format your family will enjoy most.
